Details

Cissus quadrangularis, called veldt grape, winged treebine or adamant creeper, is a perennial plant of the grape family native to tropical Asia, the Arabian Peninsula and much of Africa. It reaches about one and a half metres in height and has branches that are quadrangular in section, with internodes eight to ten centimetres long and a leathery edge along each angle. Toothed, three-lobed leaves two to five centimetres wide appear at the nodes, each with a tendril on the opposite side. The page also describes it as an evergreen climber growing to five metres, suited to light, medium and heavy soils and able to grow in poor soil. It says the plant has been used in Ayurvedic medicines to heal broken bones and injured ligaments and tendons. In Siddha medicine it is a tonic and analgesic, and its Sanskrit name asthisamharaka means that which prevents the destruction of bones.
