Details

Amaranthus viridis, the slender amaranth or green amaranth, is an annual herb of the family Amaranthaceae, 60 to 80 centimetres tall. It is native to the tropics of the Americas and is now found worldwide. Wikipedia says it is eaten as a boiled green and that its leaves have a high protein content, up to 38 percent of dry weight. The article gives the Yoruba name in West Africa as ewe tete and says the plant is used there for medicinal and spiritual purposes. It also gives the Ayurvedic name Tanduliya. This entry rests on that one article. The article does not say what the Yoruba spiritual use involves, so none is described here.
