Details
Heimia salicifolia is a flowering plant in the loosestrife family, native to the Americas from Texas and New Mexico through Mexico and Central America to Argentina. Its common names include shrubby yellowcrest, sinicuichi, sun opener, willow-leaf heimia and sini. Native peoples in Central America and Mexico have used it for shamanic purposes, and it is reported to produce both hallucinogenic and medical effects. In the usual preparation, fresh leaves are gathered and allowed to wilt, then put in a cup or jar with cool water and left in the sun to brew and ferment for at least 24 hours. It is said that during the fermentation the knowledge of the sun is embedded into the potion, making the elixir of the sun.
