Details

Evolvulus alsinoides, commonly known as dwarf morning glory and slender dwarf morning glory, is a flowering plant of the family Convolvulaceae. In Indian Ayurveda it is known as visnukranta, vishnukranti or shankhavel. It has a pantropical distribution across tropical and warm-temperate regions, and inhabits marshland, wet forests and deserts. Linnaeus first described it in 1753 as Convolvulus alsinoides and moved it to the genus Evolvulus in 1762. It is a herbaceous annual or perennial with many prostrate or ascending slender stems, small leaves 0.7 to 2.5 centimetres long, and rounded blue flowers, rarely white, 7 to 10 millimetres across. The page says it is one of the Dasapushpam, the ten sacred flowers of Kerala. It is used in traditional medicine of East Asia for purported psychotropic and nootropic properties that are not medically verified. Compounds isolated from it include scopoletin and umbelliferone.
