Details
Ranunculus multifidus, called the common buttercup in South Africa, is a widespread flowering plant in the buttercup family, Ranunculaceae. It is native to sub-Saharan Africa except West Africa, to Madagascar and to the Arabian Peninsula, and it grows in wet areas. Wikipedia's article on the plant says it is used in traditional medicine to treat sores and toothaches. Its article on muti, the traditional medicine of southern Africa, lists it among the eleven plants the Xhosa of the Eastern Cape group as isicakathi, used for pre-natal and post-natal care and for other ailments. There it is said to be used for epileptic fits in adults, for lung problems and as an emetic, which is a medicine that causes vomiting. The muti article says the uses of these plants differ between districts of the Eastern Cape.
